Lake Garda is mainly known both as an “incubator” of the best sailors in the world and as a “wind factory”, because they systematically blow two main winds. Pelèr blows from the north in the first twelve hours of the day affecting most of the surface of Lake Garda. Normally it blows starting from 2-3 at night until 11-12. First of all, it concerns the upper and middle lake and then covers the entire surface with the rising of the sun, which in summer coincides with an increase in intensity. It is a tense wind that forms waves. In popular parlance it is said that the wind ‘el pela’ the wave. This is due to the more common name of Pelèr.
The Ora, coming from the South is the most famous wind of the high Garda known by sailors from all over the world. It alternates with the Peler, blowing from 12/13 until the sun goes down. The Ora reaches in the upper Garda area its maximum intensity thanks to the orographic conformation of the territory that causes the Venturi effect, leading it to blow over 10 m / s causing a significant wave motion. In the summer it has its maximum intensity while in winter it is very weak.
The regatta will be held at the Fraglia Vela Riva Yacht Club, founded by Gabriele D’Annunzio in 1928.
On request it is possible to combine other activities, such as mountain biking near the lake, relax in the thermal springs of the Garda Cola Thermal Park, visit the Grappa Museum and the cellars Marzadro. The regatta will consist of short regattas of 4-6 miles in the one-design yacht class J80 One Design (gennaker) and J70 One Design (gennaker) for the League navigation system in two groups c medal race, arbitrage will be directed on the water.
There are many hotels near the Fraglia Vela Riva yacht club. It is preferable to book rooms / suites in the immediate vicinity, where there are also numerous bars, restaurants, shops, pharmacies – any service you may need during your stay
